When Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt first began dating in 2018, it was the start of a pretty whirlwind romance. The pair tied the knot barely a year into their relationship, in fact – and only months after Pratt had finalized his divorce from first wife Anna Faris. Then, just ten months into married life, the Guardians of the Galaxy star and his new bride had yet another huge announcement to make – one that surprised fans of the loved-up couple.

Yes, it’s fair to say that things moved fast between Pratt and Schwarzenegger. Mere months after their courtship began in the summer of 2018, the two announced their engagement. Then in early June 2019 the actor and his fiancée celebrated their wedding – a fairytale affair that took place in Montecito, California.

Less than a year later, though, Pratt and Schwarzenegger stunned fans yet again with another life-changing admission. Still, perhaps the news shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise, as swift moves have practically become the norm for the newlyweds.

And, by contrast, it took some time for Pratt to rise from humble beginnings to Hollywood super-stardom. After the future actor dropped out of college, he moved to Hawaii at 19. There, he lived in a van while he waited tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company in Maui. Yet, amazingly, this job actually led Pratt to his big break.

You see, the aspiring star just so happened to wait on Rae Dawn Chong – an actress and director who had appeared in the acclaimed film adaptation of The Color Purple. And in 2014 Pratt told Entertainment Weekly that he had not only recognized Chong, but that he had also explained to her that he had always wanted to make movies. He recalled, “[Chong] said, ‘You’re cute. Do you act?’ I was like, ‘I act! Put me in a movie!’”

So, Chong did just that, as fortuitously she had been casting for comedic horror flick Cursed Part 3 when she had crossed paths with Pratt. In turn, Pratt decided to leave Hawaii behind and move to Los Angeles. And while the actress ultimately never released the movie as she didn’t think it was any good, that leap of faith from Chong gave the former waiter the impetus to really pursue a Hollywood career.

A move to LA didn’t guarantee instant success for Pratt, though. Indeed, he spent several years waiting tables in Hollywood – even though, as the actor admitted on a 2016 episode of The Graham Norton Show, he wasn’t very good at it. During that TV appearance, Pratt also admitted to the host, “I’d been busted so many times eating off people’s plates.”

But all of Pratt’s hard work and money-saving tactics paid off in 2002, when he earned a place in the main cast of TV series Everwood. He also ultimately landed parts in The O.C. and 2011 movie Moneyball, which went on to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

At the time of Moneyball’s Oscars nod, Pratt was already becoming a household name while playing the goofy Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation. And the actor didn’t have to worry about making the transition from the small screen to the movies, either. Before Parks and Recreation ended in 2015, he had already landed a leading role in the major blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.

Since then, Pratt has gone on to star in a slew of other hugely successful movies. In 2018, for instance, he reprised his Jurassic World part in the film’s sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The actor reportedly received a $10 million paycheck for the follow-up after the first flick raked in $1.7 billion globally.

But in spite of his on-screen success and upward Hollywood trajectory, Pratt’s personal life has had its ups and downs. In 2007 the star met Anna Faris for the first time on the set of the movie Take Me Home Tonight. And although the pair instantly bonded, there was just one small hitch: at the time, Faris was already married to fellow actor Ben Indra.

But Pratt’s luck would change at the end of the same year, when Faris and Indra decided to go their separate ways. Then, after Faris’ divorce became final in 2008, she and the Jurassic World star got engaged. And in July 2009 the couple tied the knot with a picture-perfect wedding ceremony in Bali.

Then, in spring 2012, Pratt and Faris had more exciting news to share: they were going to be parents. They subsequently welcomed their son, Jack, in August of that year. But the pair and their new arrival didn’t get much family time together in 2013. With both Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy on Pratt’s plate at the time, he was only able to see his son twice in six months.

Then came the tabloid rumors (denied by the couple) about Pratt being unfaithful to Faris in 2015. They remained an item, speaking highly of their bond and of each other. And the stars posted tributes to one another on Instagram, celebrating Mother’s and Father’s Days by lauding their hard work as parents.

But kind words and warm feelings wouldn’t be enough to save their union. In August 2017 Pratt and Faris told the world that they were separating. And, soon enough, each had moved onto new partners. The Mom actress began to date Michael Barrett, a cinematographer, in the November following their split. It would take Pratt a bit longer to find his next leading lady, though.

According to People, Maria Shriver set up Pratt with her daughter, Katherine Schwarzenegger, in spring 2018 – less than a year after his separation. Shriver, of course, is a member of the Kennedy family, a broadcast journalist and the ex-wife of Terminator actor and Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger. They had four children together, with Katherine being the oldest.

Although she had two famous parents, the eldest Schwarzenegger child opted for life away from the spotlight. She graduated from the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism in 2012, although she had already begun to write professionally before she turned her tassel.

Schwarzenegger’s first book, Rock What You’ve Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty from Someone Who’s Been There and Back, came out in 2010. In it, she shares her personal journey to body-image acceptance and encourages other young women to find the same positive state of mind.

Since then, Schwarzenegger has published three more books. In 2014 she came out with I Just Graduated… Now What?, a piece packed with the wisdom and advice she received when she graduated from USC. Three years later, she wrote a children’s book called Maverick and Me, which told the tale of how she adopted her puppy.

Schwarzenegger also compiled stories for her 2020 book, The Gift of Forgiveness: Inspiring Stories from Those Who Have Overcome the Unforgivable. The anthology included pieces by kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart and Tanya Brown, whose sister, Nicole Brown-Simpson, was the victim at the center of the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial.

In the midst of her burgeoning writing career, Schwarzenegger’s mom, Shriver, decided to fix up her daughter with a Hollywood superstar. And, in June 2018, the public caught their first glimpse of the author and Pratt on a date. A month later, they grabbed an ice cream with the actor’s son, Jack, then five years old.

Soon enough – a year after his divorce, to be exact – Pratt was meeting Schwarzenegger’s family. And by Labor Day in September, a source told People that the relationship wasn’t just a fling. They revealed, “It’s only been a couple of months, but they’re both serious about the relationship and hopeful for the future. Chris doesn’t just date to date, and neither does Katherine. She’s very excited.”

By November 2018 friends of the couple expected an engagement in the near future, but they had a few more milestones to pass; they hadn’t even made a public declaration of their relationship status. That came in December, when Pratt took to Instagram to celebrate Schwarzenegger’s birthday. He wrote, “Your smile lights up the room. I’ve cherished our time together. Thrilled God put you in my life. Thankful for the laughs, kisses, talks, hikes, love and care.”

The next month brought the announcement that Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s friends had suspected all along. On January 14, 2019, he announced via Instagram that they had gotten engaged over the weekend. He shared a sweet photo of the pair and wrote, “Sweet Katherine, so happy you said yes! I’m thrilled to be marrying you. Proud to live boldly in faith with you. Here we go!”

That same month, Pratt envisioned a slower-paced future with his wife-to-be. He told Entertainment Tonight, “I always want to be that guy that works to live, not lives to work. I think [I want to spend] just a lot of time at the farm and a lot of time catching a lot of fish and seeing lots of sunsets.”

But that easy-going speed wouldn’t be the way Pratt and Schwarzenegger operated. Instead, they got married right away – a mere six months after their engagement. It seemed the pair were more than ready to be officially united. A source told People after their June nuptials, “You can tell today is the happiest day for Katherine. She hasn’t stopped smiling. And Chris seems giddy with excitement.”

On June 9, 2019, Schwarzenegger took to Instagram to share her post-wedding glee. She wrote, “Yesterday was the best day of our lives! We became husband and wife in front of God, our families and those we love. It was intimate, moving and emotional. We feel so blessed to begin this new chapter of our lives.”

And, in true Pratt and Schwarzenegger fashion, that next chapter started quickly after the wedding. Ten months after their June 2019 marriage, sources revealed to People and other media outlets that the duo were expecting their first child together. Those close to the newlyweds wouldn’t have been completely surprised by this news, either.

Just days after their wedding, a source spoke to the magazine and said that having a baby would be one of Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s first orders of business. They said, “He was very clear with his intentions from the start, and she has never felt so loved and safe. They both feel so blessed to have found each other, and they can’t wait to expand their family as soon as possible.”

Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s readiness to start a family stemmed from a courtship spent with his son, Jack. The source went on to explain, “Instead of mostly enjoying solo, romantic dates, Chris’ son from early on was a very big part of their dating life.” All of this more than suited the author and mom-to-be.

In fact, the source said that Schwarzenegger reveled in this time, before they even became an official family. They said, “Katherine is like a big kid and loves doing activities with Jack. She loves that Chris is a dad. Seeing Chris with Jack made Katherine positive from early on that Chris is ‘the one.’”

Schwarzenegger’s family felt sure the couple would build a brood together, although they didn’t push for them to do it on any time frame. Her father, Arnold, told TV show Extra, in January 2020, “I don’t push it because I know it’s going to happen eventually […] I’m looking forward to it, yes.”

Of course, no one was more thrilled than Schwarzenegger and Pratt. A May 2020 piece from People revealed that the expectant mom was “getting more excited every day,” according to a source. Indeed, she has reportedly translated her joy into action, by starting to compile a list for a baby registry.

And that’s not all that Schwarzenegger and Pratt have on their to-do list. The source also said the parents-to-be hoped to plan a party pre-baby. They said, “[They would love] to have a shower [for Katherine] before the baby arrives. She really wants to celebrate with her friends and family.”

One person who was already celebrating was Schwarzenegger’s mom, Shriver, who as you will remember acted as the couple’s matchmaker. In an April 2020 Instagram Live conversation with his mother-in-law and brother-in-law, Patrick, Pratt lavished the family with praise. He said, “You guys are both just so beautiful. I’m so lucky to have married into such a gorgeous family.”

In response, Shriver couldn’t help but bring up Pratt and Schwarzenegger’s baby-to-be. She replied, “You’re gonna have another beautiful family member.” Throughout the conversation, it was clear that the broadcast journalist couldn’t contain her excitement for her future as a grandmother.

Still, neither Pratt nor Schwarzenegger has confirmed that they have a baby on the way. Paparazzi snapshots have captured the expectant mom while on the go in California, and she certainly looks to have a baby bump. In the photos, she is casually walking her dog – and inspiration for her children’s book – Maverick.

And yet, plenty of sources have shared nothing but excitement from Schwarzenegger and Pratt. They have also expressed their joy at giving Pratt’s son, Jack, a sibling. An insider told People, “Jack will be a great big brother. Katherine always says that he is the sweetest, most caring boy … She loves being an extra mom to Jack.”

Having a little one of their own would only multiply that joy for Schwarzenegger and Pratt. The source continued, “They can’t wait for Jack to have a sibling.” And, according to what the Jurassic World star has said in the past, they probably won’t stop with one new addition to the family.

While Pratt promoted Lego Movie 2: The Second Part in January 2019, he had no trouble envisioning his goals when asked by Entertainment Tonight. He said in response to a question about his future that he could see “lots of kids.” And, although they have yet to confirm the news, it seems like he and Schwarzenegger have made strides to turn that dream into a reality.
